BBC Countryfile has responded to viewer backlash over the content of a recent episode. The episode, which aired on March 17, featured Charlotte Smith and Sean Fletcher exploring Marlborough Downs, in North Wessex, known for its unique chalk grasslands, ancient woods and rare streams.
Datshiane Navanayagam also travelled to Devon and Cornwall to highlight the difficulties rural residents face when trying to access NHS dentists. However, this segment sparked complaints from viewers, according to the BBC's latest report. The broadcaster stated: "We received complaints from people who felt that the item on dentistry was not suitable for Countryfile."
But the BBC defended their decision, explaining that they cover a "wide range of rural affairs issues affecting rural areas and communities".

They further clarified in a statement: "In this programme, Countryfile investigated the lack of NHS dentistry provision in Devon and Cornwall. Our film acknowledged this is a national problem but focused on the stories of those living in rural areas," reports the Express.
"Previously the programme has produced diverse films including shortfalls in Special Education Needs provision and the difficulties recruiting midwifery staff in rural areas."
At the time of airing, viewers took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the dentistry segment. One person questioned on Twitter: "Countryfile. Dentists? Am I missing something? " One viewer questioned: "What have NHS Dentists got to do with The Countryside? More irrelevant guff to pad out #countryfile."
A fellow fan also queried: "#Countryfile What has lack of dentists got to do with countryside matters? ? Is this panorama or Countryfile? My favourite Sunday evening relaxation show ruined."
However, not all viewers shared the same sentiments. One defended: "The people complaining that #Countryfile is covering problems in the...erm countryside about dentists."
They continued: "Moaning they just want to see nice things about cows and sheep people live here you know. It's not just for your holiday and to see pretty things."
