One of the UK’s best seaside resorts has announced that it will be opening a new playground and additional accommodation this year. Butlin’s Minehead is having a major refurbishment and is getting a brand new play park to the site.
The West Country resort is the largest Butlin's in the country. From their iconic chalets, seafront apartments, in-house restaurant, vintage fairground and entertainment hub there are plenty of things to keep the whole family entertained all week.
The brand new Skypark will open at Minehead this summer. With the new premier lodges and the activity centre, holidays start at just £59 making it the perfect place for a half term or summer break, SomersetLive reports.

A spokesperson said: "Families will be able to enjoy this incredible £2.5million investment that’s been designed for inclusivity, interactivity and illumination. Six zones based on positive play emotions will include brand-new features such as the UK’s longest swingline at 42 metres, a wheelchair accessible seesaw and trampolines and two light-up intertwining slides. With two play spaces to choose from Skypark Minehead has a continued focus on sensory features including a place of calm in the unique Sound Domo playing 18 relaxing sounds."
The specially designed park is made to spark young imaginations and encourage open exploration. The playful world of colour and light is all about inclusivity and interactivity. There are thrills and surprises at every turn, with six different zones celebrating positive play emotions. Complete with epic climbing towers, thrilling tunnel slides, interactive games, and immersive pathways, Skypark is an interactive adventure park all kids will love.
Butlin’s Skypark is designed for children up to 12 years old. Skypark also has wheelchair-accessible features to allow children of all ages and abilities to play together. Thanks to the bright illumination, children can have after-dark adventures with the light-up towers and slides.
Butlin’s Skegness and Bognor Regis will also be receiving major additions and refurbs this year. Bognor will open a 50,000 square foot, indoor activity centre and Skegness will welcome new premium lodges.
Alongside these three major new openings, there’s also an accommodation refurb project in Minehead that will be completed by April. The Somerset resort will see a total of 400 units of accommodation completely renovated later this year. This will offer holidaymakers a relaxing yet practical space with all the essentials needed for a great stay.
As well as the accommodation project in Minehead, the resort’s newest venue, Studio 36, will be made permanent. Originally installed during the Covid-19 pandemic as a solution to social distancing, Studio 36 will now be home to all headline acts.
Jon Hendry Pickup, Butlin’s Chief Executive said: “2024 is going to be an incredible year at Butlin’s. We are the Home of Entertainment, so these amazing new openings are going to significantly enhance our guests’ experience. This significant investment will bring even more entertainment and activities to our three resorts for both family and Big Weekender breaks.
“Nowhere else does fun and entertainment like Butlin’s so the announcement of our incredible, inclusive playground Butlin’s Skypark coming to Minehead, our new Premium Lodges in Skegness and Playxperience opening its doors in Bognor will take already jam-packed holidays to a new level. This year really is going to be our biggest and best year yet.”
