Locals are raving about a newly redesigned bistro at a Devon pub saved by locals. The Cornwood Inn on Dartmoor was minutes away from being sold to a property developer until a last-ditch bid from residents who came together to save it.
A band of community volunteers, known as the Cornwood Inn Action Group, took the initiative to buy the village pub from Enterprise Inns back in September 2019. By selling community shares they ensured a future for their much-loved pub.
You won't be disappointed with their recently introduced bistro menu. Patrons have praised the "superb" food and "lovely atmosphere", which has earned them a 5-star rating on Tripadvisor.

Diners astonished by quality of the food at Devon pub
Devon's funniest woman is on the road to stardom
Vannish1958, a reviewer, voiced his surprise after revisiting the watering hole: "We had a very pleasant surprise on our most recent trip last week to find that the original Bar has now been transformed into a lovely Bistro, whose menu offers a complementary "fine dining" experience to the ever popular (and extensive) food menu of pub favourites served in the main lounge-bar."
He continued to describe his dining experience saying, "Our main courses of fillet steak and pork belly were both delicious and good value for money. The Bistro offers a warm, quiet and relaxing space to dine and yet the lively lounge-bar is just across the hallway. A lovely evening all round, thank you Tina and team!!"
Richardt1008 said: "We intended to eat in the new bistro but as it was quiet we had a table in the bar. This was the right choice; everyone was super friendly the atmosphere very homely and we got the ambiance of the bar (plus a candle) with the choice of the bistro menu."
"Even the dogs were pleased to see us (although 'Missy' didn't figure out which pocket the dog treats were in! ). The food was superb, I can't praise it enough. Thank you."
Sophia W said: "We had dinner in the new revamped "Bistro" area at Cornwood Pub with table service. I had one of the nicest steaks I have had out in a long time. The puddings were also delicious".

LA F said: "6 of us tried out the new Bistro to see if it would become a regular haunt - the answer is a big fat YES! Lovely atmosphere with candles and nicely laid tables."
"Good quality well presented food. Black pudding scotch egg was gooey in the middle and so was the chocolate fondant. Fillet steaks, belly pork and salmon were well cooked and there's a small but well chosen wine list. A great find - we'll be back! ".
Salsera9 shared their excitement: "The Bistro at the Cornwood Inn is a new gem recently opened and serving a well selected menu for all tastes. I have previously eaten in the bar many times (always great food) but the Bistro is a great alternative if you fancy a bit more of a delicious treat."
"The Bistro is very comfortable and welcoming and we were looked after very well by friendly staff.. So glad to see this open in the local area, I'll be back!"
Justin R also had high praise: "Had dinner on Valentine's Night at the new Bistro at the Community-owned Cornwood Inn. Its a great new venue with a lovely atmosphere. The 3-course menu is relatively small to match the snug size, but there is a very well thought-through range of dishes for each course, and a good wine list."
"The food was absolutely delicious and a notch up on anything available in the local area. The service is also very much more friendly intimate restaurant than good pub grub."
