Dawlish was underwater this afternoon (September 17) after a stream which flows through the town burst its banks. Water gushed into the road, making it barely passable for drivers.
Live camera footage from The Beach Bar near Dawlish seafront shows the moment water began gushing into Station Road shortly before 3pm. It came after torrential rain lashed down on Devon, causing the Dawlish Water stream to burst its banks.
Dawlish Mini Golf and the popular seating area around the stream can be seen completely flooded, while cars tentatively approach a flooded area of Station Road nearby. Water continues to flow rapidly under the railway line and onto the beach.

The footage also shows pedestrians stranded around Station Road, with many stopping when they approach the flooded area. A local told DevonLive shortly before 5pm that the area was still flooded but had receded somewhat.
Devon, along with most of the South of England and Wales, is covered by a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms today. This means that there is a small chance of flooding, transport disruption and power cuts until around 6pm.
