There is fresh hope that a historic Devon pub could be given a new lease of life. The Rising Sun on Brixham harbourside has been closed for about five years.
There were fears the sun had set for good on the quayside pub which dates back several hundreds years. But the property has been put back on the market with a view to new owners taking over the lease.
It could signal a new era for the pub. Agents say there has already been a strong interest - a welcome change to the national trend of pub closures.
Matt Bettesworth, managing director of Bettesworths estate agents, said: "We are offering a new lease on behalf of the owners Wellington Pub Company. There has been plenty of interest after the relisting this week."
The Rising Sun was a popular pub for many decades and has a long association with local fishermen who regarded it as a local. Agents say whoever takes over will benefit from high levels of footfall and tourists.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for a new operator to re-establish trade and capitalise on its first class position," said Matt.
The Rising Sun has not welcomed any customers since closing its doors around the time of the first lockdown. Locals feared it might be turned into flats - even though it has been referred to a potential goldmine of trade.
The building itself is Grade-II listed and boasts a traditional beamed bar area and five bedrooms. Interior repair work has been completed and it is ready for new occupiers.
