A rescue team on Dartmoor were called to what has been described as an 'unusual' incident after a dog was bitten by a snake. The incident took place when a dog and its owner were in the remote Redlake area of the moor.
The owner immediately called the vets after their furry companion, Olive, suffered a snake bite from a suspected adder. The owner then contacted the police and requested mountain rescue assistance in a bid to bring Olive to safety.
Three members of Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Ashburton rushed to the scene and successfully retrieved both the owner and dog, taking them back to Ivybridge.

Olive was then taken to the vets for treatment and given some 'well deserved treats'. In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson for the rescue team wrote: "The team were contacted approx 6.30pm on Sunday evening to assist with an 'unusual' incident on the moor.
"A dog had had a encounter with an adder near Redlake, a remote part of the moor north of Ivybridge. The owner, having initially phoned for a vet's advice suspecting a bite attack, then correctly called the police for mountain rescue assistance.
"Three of our team members in a suitably equipped 4x4 vehicle, were able to swiftly respond and safely transport the pair back to Ivybridge, where the grateful owner picked up his car and took Olive (pictured) for treatment.
"We wish the poorly lass a speedy recovery aided by, we're quite sure, a few well-deserved treats."
