Senior coroner Philip Spiney said: "The circumstances provided were that Mark drove into the back of a stationary lorry sustaining injuries which proved fatal. The incident is being investigated by police. It has already been determined no prosecution is to take place."

The hearing was adjourned and a full inquest will take place at a later date.

PlymouthLive initially reported the collision on the evening of Wednesday March 27 which involved a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a MAN lorry on the westbound carriageway of the A38 at Deep Lane. A large number of emergency services attended the scene and the road was partially closed for around five hours while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

The road conditions at the time were dramatically hampered by high winds, rain and a sudden heavy snowstorm which blanketed parts of Plymouth, including Plymstock and Plympton, as well as stretches of the A38.
