"Five defences! I hope there's none living in the soil already as I will have just trapped them forever.”

In the brief video, Amy detailed her method for safeguarding her Hostas from voracious slugs. After placing her plant in a pot elevated on a metal stand, the gardening enthusiast from the UK generously applied Vaseline, readily available for just 79p at Waitrose, along the rim and legs of the stand.

To bolster the defence, she strategically positioned copper scouring pads around the base of the plant. As an additional measure, she sprayed the plant with garlic spray.

She explained: "I personally don’t think it works on its own, there’s too much rain where I live. But, together with the other defences, it seems to work quite well.”

The TikTok clip, shared under the username @thelockdowngardener, has evidently captivated many, garnering a swift 79,500 views.
