Exeter Chiefs were put to the sword in a devastating display of attacking rugby from Harlequins at Twickenham on Saturday evening. With Marcus Smith pulling the strings, the London side were simply irresistible.
Despite starting well, Exeter soon found themselves up against it after Cadan Murley sprinted home to open the scoring for Quins, who were a man down at the time. Things just went from bad to worse from that point onwards as Quins showed their full array of attacking talent.
Jack Innard's second-half try at least made sure they made it onto the scoreboard, but that was scant consolation on a gruesome day for the visitors.
Here are the player ratings from Big Match 14 at Twickenham.
15 Josh Hodge - 5
One of the few players who did try and inject an attacking spark for the visitors - with mixed success. Made 74 metres and beat five defenders, but slipped off a few tackles and was turned over on three occasions.
It felt at times like the team relied on him too much as an attacking outlet, which is a big responsibility for a player so young, despite his heroics this season.
14 Jack Nowell - 6
Arguably Exeter's best player. Made a couple of try-saving tackles which prevented an even messier scoreline. Also plenty of endeavour going forward, as shown with one particularly determined run in the second half. No shortage of effort or attitude from the Cornishman.
13 Ian Whitten - 5
A tough afternoon for the veteran centre. Just could not generate any of the big carries we're used to seeing from him. He did manage a couple of turnovers though, plus a try-saving interception in the first half.
12 Solomone Kata - 4
Like Whitten, just failed to generate any momentum whatsoever in attack. Replaced by Joe Simmonds after 49 minutes.
11 Olly Woodburn - 5
Another player who did at least try and haul Exeter back into the game with some hard carrying. Beat a few defenders and made 49 metres with ball in hand. Caught rushing out of the line for Quins' second try though.
10 Harvey Skinner - 4
A tough afternoon for the fly-half, which saw him simply unable to influence proceedings. The yellow was perhaps harsh given that Chisholm seemed to be barged into the contact but, having said that, Skinner was far too upright and there are some refs out there that would have shown a red card rather than a yellow in today's game. Slipped off a few tackles too, although he did put himself about defensively.
9 Sam Maunder - 4
Like Skinner, Sam Maunder just could not control the game at all. No shortage of effort, but was turned over a couple of times and had a box kick charged down too, not for the first time this season. The No.9 spot remains a problem position for the Chiefs.
1 Scott Sio - 4
Struggled to muster any momentum while carrying, and was also turned over on more than one occasion. Failed to gather a Vermeulen pass in the first half which would have surely led to a try.
2 Jack Innard - 5
Did at least manage to dot down for Exeter's lone try of the game.
3 Harry Williams - 5
Limped off injured after 17 minutes.
4 Dafydd Jenkins - 6
Did his best to stem the flow of relentless Quins attacks with 10 tackles - the second-most of any Chiefs player. Was also a solid lineout option.
5 Jonny Gray - 5
A quiet game by his standards. Just not able to impose himself on the match physically. Replaced after 49 minutes.
6 Jacques Vermeulen - 6
Always a willing carrier but struggled to make real headway. Made the most metres of any forward and put himself about, including one first-half break that almost ended in a try, but still a tough afternoon.
7 Christ Tshiunza - 4
Like so many of Exeter's players, he just could not stamp his authority on the match. Perhaps guilty of trying to do too much when he did get his hands on the ball, being either turned over or bundled into touch. Replaced after 52 minutes.
8 Sam Simmonds - 5
Again, no shortage of effort or desire, but just could not stem the tide from Quins. Did manage to beat a couple of defenders and made the most tackles of any forward (12).
Replacements:
16 Jack Yeandle - 5
17 Danny Southworth - 5
18 Marcus Street - 5
19 Jack Dunne - 5
20 Dave Ewers - 5
21 Jack Maunder - 5
22 Joe Simmonds - 5
23 Tom Hendrickson - 5
