An Exeter City councillor has been suspended from the Labour Party pending an investigation. Martin Pearce is currently the ward councillor for Duryard and St James and had hoped to be re-elected for the Alphington ward at the upcoming local elections.
The Labour Party has confirmed his suspension but given no further details. It said: "We can confirm the suspension pending an ongoing investigation. We are unable to provide further comment until that investigation is concluded."
Cllr Pearce was a member of the executive on Exeter City Council which is responsible for most of the day to day decisions of the authority. He was the portfolio holder for communities and homelessness prevention.
Exeter City Council has confirmed he no longer holds that brief.
Cllr Pearce is not standing in the Duryard and St James ward in the upcoming local elections on 2 May. His nomination for Alphington has also been withdrawn.
DevonLive has contacted Cllr Pearce for comment.
