Bus gate signs banning vehicles from entering a low-traffic neighbourhood (LTN) in Exeter were vandalised once again. Pictures on social media showed the signs were painted over in black on Vaughan Road on Sunday, March 31.
Devon and Cornwall Police officers previously met with Devon County Council over concerns that drivers were ignoring restrictions in Heavitree and Whipton. It was reported that people were driving through bus gates and putting other road users "at increased risk".
A post on X today showed signs, which permit buses, emergency vehicles and taxis to go through the bus gate, had been vandalised with black paint. In an update this evening, it was confirmed that the signs were cleaned up by local people.

Exeter Streets for People posted on X at 4.46pm: "It's Easter Sunday. What shall we do? Let's do a bit of vandalism at the bus gate, pretend we don't know about the restrictions, drive our cars through & make the streets less safe for all!"
It added at 8.50pm: "Looks like a few local heroes have quickly cleaned the signs up. This pointless, mindless, dangerous vandalism needs to stop."
The same LTN bus gate signs were attacked and hacked down by vandals earlier this month. The vandalism happened in Vaughan Road between Whipton Lane and Vaughan Rise.
Police and the council previously said they will be cracking down on LTN rulebreakers in Exeter. It came following an increase in reports of drivers ignoring the bus gates in Heavitree and Whipton, including one incident which is being investigated by police.
