An Exeter pub has revealed its plans for a huge makeover, which could include an overhaul of its outdoor area. Part of the plans is the installation of a brand new bar and pizza area.
Earlier this month, St Austell Brewery applied to vary its premises licence at the Mill on the Exe pub to allow them to sell alcohol from a new bar in their outdoor area, which already has seating for diners and drinkers overlooking the River Exe. While that application awaits a decision, a planning application has revealed what the new bar could look like.
St Austell Brewery has applied to demolish an existing outbuilding in its beer garden and build a new bar in its place, known as The Boathouse Bar. Mill on the Exe already has two bars, with one on each floor, as well as large seating areas for customers.

The new bar could also have its own small kitchen area, which would allow them to serve pizza. To make space for a potential increase in outdoor diners, they have also included plans for seating 'pods' and new loose furniture throughout their outdoor area.
On its website, the Mill on the Exe has already announced it is about to undergo a major refurbishment, which means the pub will be completely closed from Sunday, February 25 until Friday, March 1. It is then set to reopen for drinks only but the kitchen will remain closed until Friday, March 22.
In a social media announcement, they teased some details of the pub's makeover. It's unlikely this will include the new bar as the planning application is still awaiting a decision.
They said: "You may have heard we're having a little makeover, starting next week. Our accommodation will be getting a new look so our rooms will be closed until mid April. We're getting a brand new kitchen which will reopen with new menu choices.
"All of our outside spaces will be getting some well earned TLC, due to reopen for Easter weekend. All toilets will be having a revamp.
"We can't wait to see the makeover all complete. Feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions."
