Gardening hacks are handy for beginners, as well as seasoned gardeners with plenty of experience in planting and weeding their gardens. You don't need acres of land to benefit from the latest tips for helping your plants grow; even those without a garden may have houseplants they want to flourish.
TikTok user Kate, who posts under my_plastic_free_home, shared an easy and low-cost tip to speed up the fertilising process, reports the Mirror US. She captioned the post: "Start saving your banana peels because they are the best natural fertiliser for your plants and flowers!
"The first option you can do is add them to a jar and top with water, leave overnight to make banana tea, then you can just pour the water over the plants and compost the peels. Or you can blend those babies up to make a nutrient-rich banana smoothie for your plants. Doing this makes the nutrients more readily available and facilitates a quick breakdown of the peel. Just make sure you pour it onto the soil around your plants and gently work it in."
The post has garnered more than 10,000 likes on the platform, as well as a plethora of comments, with some praising the clever tip for its effectiveness. One user commented: "I've been doing this for a few weeks now and my produce garden is LOVING it", while another applauded: "Great tips!"
Another chimed in: "I love using banana peels for plants."
A different TikTok user shared their method: "I put in a bucket of water, add daily and top up with more skin stir for a week - bingo. I'll get a blender."
A social media enthusiast explained the science behind the tip, posting: "Lovely - bananas are also used in plant tissue culture to provide a source of plant hormones to increase growth."
However, some users had queries, including whether it attracted fruit flies or ants, if it could cause the leaves to turn yellow, and how often one should use banana water on plants.
