A beautiful countryside village pub is revered by locals and visitors alike who can't get enough of its hearty cuisine. The charming South Hams boozer is run by ex-Army serviceman Stephen Martin and his wife, Sharon Martin, who recently rang in their 17th anniversary as landlord and landlady.
Besides being famed for its delicious food offerings, the pub is notable also for its exclusive collection of over 100 Toby Jugs embellishing various spots around the place. The walls are also plastered in awards the pub has racked up through the years in recognition for its brilliant beer and overall character.
Stephen and Sharon, both 56, underline that the best part of being landlords is the beautiful community which surrounds them. After running Foxhound Inn for such an extended period, many of their customers have become friends for life.

Serving as the only pub in the Brixton village, the Foxhound Inn is popular among locals but also receives patrons trekking from "miles around them", Steve notes.
He said: "We keep very busy, people come to us from miles around us as we've been running the pub for so long. We are famous for our homemade pies at the Foxhound Inn."
"I like to serve food that I like to eat myself and it's all homemade - we even make our own scampi using monkfish from Moby Nicks (seafood supplier at Plymouth Fisheries)."
"Our specials board is continually changing - we like to offer local specialities such as pigeon, pheasant and venison. We also serve an OAP lunch every weekday. Smaller portions, but great value. All our fresh ingredients are sourced locally. We use R D Johns for our meat and we make all of our own puddings."
Stephen does most of the cooking and food preparation - along with staff member, Jack Springbett. The traditional old pub has a dining room and lounge area and can even cater for special occasion parties.
Stephen said: "The longevity of staff here is very good, many have been with us for over ten years. We also have three darts teams. The community in the village is very active, people are the best thing about running the pub and since being landlord and landlady, we've made lifelong friends."
"We get our ale and beer from Summerskills Brewery - the oldest microbrewery in Plymouth. I collaborated with them years ago to help create Red Coat, a nice amber real ale. Not too hoppy, not too malty."
Every Thursday, the pub becomes a welcoming "warm hub" and with funding from Brixton Parish Council, the Foxhound Inn offers free coffee and cake to villagers on Thursdays. The pub has an "old fashioned living room" giving it a cosy, timeless feel.
During the Covid pandemic, Stephen built a wood-fired pizza oven in the pub's beer garden. In the summer, pizzas are also on the menu and the team make their own Neapolitan-style dough.
The pub is very dog friendly where any visiting dog gets a free Bonio biscuit. Stephen and Sharon's boxer dog, George, is part of the family at the Foxhound Inn.
Currently painted green, the Foxhound Inn has been several different colours over the years, but always a memorable colour that people notice when driving by. The pub was formerly judged Plymouth CAMRA Country Pub of the Year for several years running.
