Do you care about what goes on around you, wish your community had a louder voice and want to make a difference?
If you love where you live and think you could make a difference to your community by joining our news team in the South West, this is your chance.
As part of our groundbreaking partnership with Facebook, we are looking to take on and train an enthusiastic and driven person to work in North Devon and across the border into Somerset who would love to create content about the things that matter to their community.
Across DevonLive and SomersetLive, we deliver more than 25 million page views to readers every month through the stories we write, but we know from our audience that there are areas that we don't always cover that you'd like us to focus on.
This is your chance to have a say in that, to join an amazing team of reporters working for Reach Plc in the Westcountry, to shape our news agenda and to be part of the future of our growing digital story.
Previous journalism experience or education is not essential. We want people who care about where we live and we’re especially keen to hear from people who believe they can help make our newsrooms more representative of the communities they serve.
Your main role will be to engage with people in specific communities to curate, collate and create content relevant to them. You will take responsibility for developing relationships with new communities, focusing on a named community each quarter, generating stories which re-engage communities with your local news provider.
You will be publishing packages of content to a high standard, writing headlines and uploading words, pictures, video and audio that you have sourced. Providing insight to the wider newsroom about the issues and concerns of specific communities will be an important part of the role.
You do need to have at least 5 GCSEs with Maths and English at a C or above (or equivalent). We also welcome people who are doing a completely different job – and want to make a career change to become a journalist.
For applicants with no previous journalism experience or education, we are offering journalism apprenticeships, which combine intensive training with on-the-job experience in local communities.
You will be joining a team of 5 community reporters across the South West involved in this partnership, which includes other local news publishers and the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).
The jobs will be offered on a two-year fixed term contract and you will receive industry-leading digital journalism training from the NCTJ once in the role.
In addition to a competitive salary, 25 days annual leave, and a contributory pension scheme, Reach plc have a wealth of flexible benefits on offer. These include holiday purchase up to ten days per year, childcare vouchers, cycle scheme, a technology scheme in conjunction with Curry's PC World, car scheme, health cash plan, employee loans and lots of high street discounts.
Our business is fully committed to health and wellbeing in the workplace with an employee assistance programme and trained mental health first aiders across the business.
