An air ambulance landed following a serious crash on a key road in Devon this morning. The A380 was closed southbound near Kingsteignton after the collision was reported at 9.40am today (Tuesday, April 16).
Traffic was queuing in the area with long delays. Photos taken at the scene show a Devon an Air Ambulance flying overhead, with fire crews and an ambulance rushing to the scene, as well as long queues of traffic. The road had reopened by 6.45pm and traffic started to ease.
A witness told DevonLive: "A380 southbound just before Eagle Farm Newton Abbot, incident in progress, long tail backs to Halden Hill, avoid if possible!"
Traffic monitor Inrix reported: "A380 Besigheim Way Southbound closed, long delays due to accident investigation work from Ashcombe / Teignmouth turn off (Ashcombe) to Ware Barton Roundabout (Kingsteignton). Congestion to Great Haldon turning and routes through Newton Abbott as traffic diverts away. In the roadworks area."

Two people seriously injured
Two people have been seriously injured in a collision on the A380, Devon and Cornwall Police has said.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were notified at around 9.10am this morning to reports of a collision between a lorry and a car on the A380 Southbound at Kingsteignton.The Northbound was closed to allow the Air Ambulance to landTwo people have been seriously injured and taken to hospital."

A380 southbound likely to be 'closed for some time'
An eyewitness has told DevonLive the A380 northbound has started moving once again, but the road remains closed southbound. They also reported that an emergency service worker at the scene told them it was likely to be closed for some time.
Inrix reports: "A380 Besigheim Way Southbound closed, queueing traffic due to accident from The B3195 (Sandygate) to Ware Barton Roundabout (Kingsteignton). Note change of direction. Sensors show that the northbound side of the road has now reopened, but the southbound side remains closed."
