A Mid Devon business park is going from strength-to-strength, developing to meet the growth of its tenants – and having a positive impact on local employment and the regional economy. Almost 700 people are now employed at organisations based at Hitchcocks Business Park, which is situated close to Junction 27 of the M5. The park provides business units and yard space for 45 companies operating in a variety of sectors including warehousing, distribution, manufacturing and business services.
Companies based at the 60-acre Hitchcocks Business Park, include international businesses such as GXO Logistics & Carlsberg, national brands such as DFS and Gregory Distribution and regional companies, including United Roofing and Trucksmith.
Owner and chief executive, Richard Persey, said: “Over the last 10 years or so, we have built a business park which caters for businesses of varying sizes. We work hard to ensure we provide top quality space, which enables us to attract high calibre organisations. We’re proud to contribute to the local economy in this way and always aim to make our growth in a sustainable way.”

The site, which is between Willand and Uffculme, has recently completed the third phase of its development, which saw increased provision for several of its tenants, including a new industrial unit for PenCarrie, the UK’s leading wholesale clothing provider; and new storage yards for S&G Transport and Nicholls Logistics. This phase alone safeguarded 34 jobs via existing tenants and brought an additional 25 jobs via new tenants.
Richard added: “We aim to use energy saving technology where possible. We have invested in a number of roof-mounted solar PV installations to our existing buildings. New buildings at the park are designed to incorporate energy saving technology wherever possible, with retrospective improvements to existing buildings also undertaken. We are committed to developing an environmentally sustainable site, and we strive to fulfil the needs of current generations without compromising the needs of future generations, all the time ensuring a balance between economic growth, environmental care and social wellbeing.”
