A new £3.4 million leisure facility centre has been unveiled at Devon Hills Holiday Park in Paignton. The Hive Leisure Club & Café opens today - Saturday April 13 - and features a fully equipped gym suite, a fully licensed café, convenience shop, 18-metre indoor swimming pool with a sauna and steam room.
The site’s reception and sales office has been relocated to the same building, making The Hive Leisure Club & Café the venue's focal point.
Due to a serious fire, the popular site closed its former leisure complex in autumn 2022 and the park has temporarily been without those facilities since. Thus, the launch of The Hive Leisure Club has been much anticipated and now guests, owners and locals can maximise use of these modern amenities to work up a sweat, get some lengths in and let off some steam in the sauna and steam room.

The new-look gym features a range of free weights, cardio, virtual PT classes, weight machines and yoga and Pilates kit, so it’s suitable for all types of workouts from high intensity to body conditioning. Post workout, the fully licensed café will be serving up a range of food and beverage options for breakfast, lunch and dinner, such as pastries, fish and chips, rice boxes, salads, and pizza as well as a takeaway offering. It’s open from 8am through to late, with lunch and dinner served from 12pm.
Members of the local community will also benefit from the development with leisure membership options, costing between £25 and £35 monthly for gym, swim or combined memberships with a £15 joining fee. Alternatively, for just £5, the 18 metre pool can be used for a one-off swim session throughout the week. The swim school membership follows a Swim England syllabus stage 1 – 4 and is suitable for ages four and over. Youngsters in the swim school will also have unlimited access to the pool outside of their lessons when accompanied by a paying adult. This costs just £25 per month.
Locals can make use of two weeks free membership if they sign up before April 16, simply paying the joining fee and then using the gym free until the first monthly membership payment goes through on May 1.
Chief executive officer of Haulfryn Group Limited Bobby McGhee said, “At Haulfryn, we are all absolutely dedicated to ensuring that all facilities and grounds offer an exceptional experience for our much-valued guests, owners and local community.
“The Hive Leisure Club & Café will not only elevate the overall enjoyment on-site but will also foster a sense of wellbeing and community. We are delighted to throw open our doors, and access to these facilities to the local community, and to restart our popular memberships within the new, modern spaces. Locals are also most welcome at The Hive Café which is fully licensed so perfect for catch-ups.”
