A police crackdown to make Devon's roads safer has resulted in 27 motorists being reprimanded for driving offences. Newton Abbot Police have confirmed 27 drivers were found to have been breaking the law with one driver was arrested for failing a roadside drug wipe and driving while disqualified, and three vehicles being driven with insecure loads.
An undisclosed number of drivers were also dealt with for speeding. The police operation was carried out on Thursday, April 11.
On its Facebook page, Newton Abbot Police said: "Yesterday [April 11] a joint operation was held in Newton Abbot which including local patrol officers, roads policing officers along with vehicle examiners from DVSA. The aim was to remove dangerous vehicles from the roads and target those road users that put others at risk of serious injury and death.

One driver was arrested for failing a roadside drug wipe and driving whilst disqualified. Three vehicles were given immediate prohibitions for load insecurity.
"Five vehicles were rectified at the roadside and released. Twelve vehicles were given a delayed prohibition which gives the driver 10 days to fix the issue identified.
"Three drivers had no insurance. Three vehicles were dealt with for being overweight and 11 others were given some advice.
"Officers also dealt with speeding vehicles. This is just one day of enforcement and I think most of you would agree that it was successful in keeping our roads a safer place."
