A sponsored read at Rackenford C of E Primary School has raised £1775.18 to be spent on the school's library. Combined with a successful book fair, the pupils will effectively benefit from almost £3,000 to spend on new books. The school has been supported in the initiative by The Bookbarn in Barnstaple, with the Ready, Steady, Read initiative from book publisher Usborne.
Head of school, Emily Budden said: "Children joined us in a sponsored read, either sponsored for a set amount or per minute of reading. It was wonderful to see how many took part, and we also managed to align part of the fun with World Book Day. As a relatively small community school, this additional budget for books will go a very long way."
Dawn Bartlett, from The Bookbarn, which supports improving literacy levels and promoting a love of reading in children, said: "I'm super proud and chuffed of all the children from Rackenford. You have all done an amazing job of raising money. That is an absolutely incredible total."
