Tickets for this year’s Budleigh Music Festival, which features a star-studded line up of classical musicians, are now on sale to the public. The Festival, which takes place from Friday June 28 until Sunday July 7, will feature internationally renowned artists, including opera legend Dame Sarah Connolly, world leading choral ensemble Tenebrae and the internationally acclaimed concert pianist Benjamin Grosvenor.

Other performers include Ethan Loch, the BBC Young Musician piano finalist, blind since birth and Seckou Keita, composer and virtuoso Senegalese kora player alongside members of the Bath Philharmonia. A day of Mendelssohn will include an afternoon screening of a film about the life of Fanny Mendelssohn, as well as an evening concert with a rare opportunity to hear Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet, Opus 20 in E-flat major, performed by the Sacconi and Salomé quartets. Saturday night will see the BBC Big Band raise the roof of St Peter’s Church in a celebration of classics and jazz, with special guest appearance by singer Elaine Delmar, guaranteed to give a feel-good night out.

The Festival will be brought to a close on Sunday July 7 with a special family concert, in partnership with Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival, bringing Michael Morpurgo and cellist Clare O’Connell together in his version of The Carnival of the Animals.

As part of its commitment to supporting young musicians the Festival will be staging lunchtime concerts through the week, which will also feature some local performers, including performances from Exeter School, Devon Youth Wind Orchestra and former Exeter Cathedral chorister Bethany Partridge.

We’re really delighted with the programme which has been curated by our artistic director, Jason Thornton, and caters to a wide range of musical preferences, ensuring there's something for everyone, whether they're seasoned classical music enthusiasts or newcomers to the genre.

“Watching live classical music can transport you - it’s a moment to relax, contemplate and recharge your batteries. We also believe that the Festival not only enriches the cultural landscape of Budleigh Salterton but also provides an opportunity for people to explore and appreciate classical music in an inclusive and welcoming environment.”

There will be opportunities for local people to be involved, with a special event for the elderly and vulnerable, a concert for schools and a community choral workshop, culminating in a performance on the opening day, which will also feature local schools. The choral workshop will be led by Bob Chilcott, who returns to Budleigh Salterton after his successful event last year. The singers will work together on his hugely popular A Little Jazz Mass, in its 20th anniversary year.
