Assaults on emergency workers and downloading child abuse images from the internet were among the recent cases heard at magistrates in Devon.
There are also cases involving drink drivers, shoplifting and violence against emergency workers. All criminal cases start at the magistrates. The most serious are sent to crown court. Most defendants are dealt with by fines or community orders. Magistrates have the power to send people to prison for up to 12 months.

JANUARY 18
Libby King, Smythen Street, Exeter. Age: 23. On 04/01/2024 at Tesco High Street Exeter stole vodka and drunk and disorderly. Plus assault emergency worker. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Rehabilitation with probation for 20 days.
Evelyn Margand, Bellevue Terrace, Cullompton. Age: 23. On 11/07/2023 at Cullompton drove an Audi when proportion of drug above legal limit. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 40 months. Fined £440.
Zayan Mohammed, Culme Way, Honiton. Age: 24. On 29/07/2023 at Honiton drove whilst disqualified and whilst above legal limit for alcohol. Obstructed a PC. Plea: Guilty. 12 weeks custody suspended for 12 months. Unpaid work for 120 hours. Disqualified for 40 weeks.
Matthew Marriott, Magdalen Street, Exeter. Age: 29. On 20/10/2023 at Exeter stole meat from Co-op plus three more shoplifting offences. Plea: Guilty. Custody for 13 weeks.

William Edward, Chawleigh. Age: 22. On 17/01/2024 on High Street Exeter jointly accused of caused GBH with intent to a female. No plea required. Sent to Exeter Crown Court on 22/02/2024.
James Wilson, Chawleigh. Age: 21. On 17/01/2024 on High Street Exeter jointly accused of caused GBH with intent to a female. No plea required. Sent to Exeter Crown Court on 22/02/2024.

David Kennedy-McGregor, Clifftown Gardens, Herne Bay, Kent. Age: 67. On Between 26/08/2020 and 18/07/2021 at Lewdown made indecent photographs of a child. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Fined £451. Sex offender register for five years.
JANUARY 23
Kevin Marks, NFA, Exmouth. Age: 59. On 04/01/2024 at Exeter used threatening or abusive words or behaviour. Plea: Guilty. Conditional discharge for six months.
Jim Smith, Wordsworth Close, Exeter. Age: 48. On 24/04/2023 at Exeter drove with proportion of specified drug above limit. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Rehabilitation with probation for 20 days. Disqualified for 48 months. Fined £102.
Jarad Brough, NFA. Age: 21. On 05/01/2024 at Exeter Central station were drunk and disorderly. Plea: Guilty. Fined £40.
