Staff shortages due to coronavirus has led to a call by supermarkets to urgently recruit.
Tesco, Asda, Morrison, Aldi, Lidl and Iceland are all advertising for shop staff and delivery drivers to cope with the effects of self isolating, social distancing and panic buying.
Morrisons
Morrisons said earlier this week that it was creating 3,500 new jobs in the UK in order to expand its home delivery service. Of these around 1,000 will workin the distribution centres, the rest will be pickers and drivers.
As part of their plans to ensure customers can still shop when at home, they are launching a customer call centre for food orders to be taken over the phone for those who cannot online shop, according to Wales online.
Co-op
The store plans to create 5,000 store-based roles to provide temporary employment for hospitality workers who have lost their jobs and to increase support for local communities.
Permanent and temporary roles are available across the UK. Staff will help stores to replenish stock more efficiently, fulfil online orders and provide ongoing assistance to more vulnerable customers.
Tesco
All the supermarkets have been affected by panic buying and staff at many of them are sharing posts on social media about recruitment, urging people to either call or drop CV's and letters to their local stores.
Notices have gone up in many stores saying: “With the Covid-19 situation evolving everyday, and unprecedented high demand, we urgently need to recruit extra temporary in-store colleagues.
"Working in our stores, you’ll play a key role in keeping our shelves stocked, helping our customers get what they need during this challenging time.”
Such a demand for these roles has meant the Tesco Careers website has been repeatedly crashing.
Pay varies around £8.20 per hour, and there is a range of nights, twilights and daytime shifts available.
To apply, visit Glassdoor and search for a Tesco store near you.
Asda are following suit with Tesco, temporarily closing its 24 hour stores between the hours of 12am and 6am in order to re-stock shelves.
There are a number of store assistant jobs, which involves serving customers, unpacking deliveries and filling shelves, uploaded to Indeed in the last 24 hours, including Falmouth, Cornwall.
Salary is around £9 per hour and you can find which stores have vacancies here
Aldi
A post by an Aldi staff member on social media said: "Aldi are doing some emergency recruitment and are offering a temporary contract on a one month rolling basis.
"Hours are flexible and available now. We will need people who are hard working, trustworthy, reliable and can pick things up quickly. Want to give it a go because you are out of work?
"Call your local store or drop your CV and covering letter and include info about what stores you are able to travel to and hours you can work."
