Devon is bracing itself for an influx of visitors and finding somewhere to eat can prove difficult if you're new to the county - but also it can tricky as a local trying to bag a nice place to eat that's not already booked up.
As The Times releases a comprehensive list of the best seaside spots to eat this summer, one place in particular in a popular Devon town just 40 minutes from Exeter truly stands out.
The Pea Green Boat is a waterfront gem and comes highly recommended courtesy of Hugo and Olive Guest, owners of the Glebe House restaurant and guest house in Colyton.

Speaking to the Sidmouth Herald, the pair explained why they chose the Pea Green Boat as their favourite. They said: “Get a whole fish to share (think brill or turbot) with French fries, right on the waterfront. A really good wine list. Chris Pike, the owner, is a great host.”
Chris said: “Thank you to Hugo and Olive Guest at Glebe House for the recommendation who, together with The Pig at Coombe, have helped put East Devon on the culinary map.
“For us it has been a journey of 11 years, working towards being the restaurant that we are today. Fresh local produce, cooked simply in a fantastic location.
“Thank you to all the team members who have contributed to our success and the customers who continue to support us.”
The Pea Green Boat restaurant has an impressive four out of five star rating on Tripadvisor with over 1,000 reviews.
One said they had “exceptional seafood” adding: “the restaurant is quaint, but stylish, offering a limited but delightful menu. The mussels and scallops were divine!! Book in advance as the restaurant is quite small but it had a lovely atmosphere and we had a great time.”
Another commented: “Had a great 3 course meal while sitting looking out to sea. The service was exceptional and the food was of a really high quality. I'd recommend booking as it did get very busy.”
One even called it “Sidmouth's hidden gem - 5* dining”. They said: “We are regular visitors to the Pea Green Boat - Sidmouth's hidden gem. It's the only place to go locally if you want a 5* dining experience.
“The food, service and atmosphere are 10/10. The restaurant boasts stunning sea views making it the perfect place to spend the golden hour. Chris and Olivia go the extra mile to make every visit a special one. Hands down to the chef, Neil, for the best côte de boeuf in the South West!”
The Pea Green Boat has one of the the very best locations of any restaurant in Sidmouth. Overlooking the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic Coast, you can relax and enjoy some amazing food while taking in the impressive views that Devon has to offer.
The restaurant itself is found halfway along the esplanade nestled in-between the Marine Bar and the Kingswood and Devoran Hotel. You can easily walk from the town centre or indeed any of the car parks in Sidmouth.
One thing that you should know before booking a table, the Pea Green Boat does not allow reservations on their outside tables. They are available on a first come, first serve basis, so you’ll need to be quick to grab yourself a spot in the sun during summer.
