Aaron Downes was frustrated after Easter Monday’s 3-3 draw against Weston-super-Mare, because he said torquay -united-fc>Torquay United had done enough to win the game.
The Gulls were 2-0 ahead by the 15th minute after good goals by Jack Stobbs and Arkell Jude-Boyd, but Weston hit back in the first half through Jordan Bastin, and got a second through Bailey Kempster just after half time.
It looked like Torquay had won it after Jude-Boyd scored his second goal of the afternoon, with the ball creeping under goalkeeper Max Harris’ legs, but Weston came back with another goal – this time by Reuben Reid.

Downes said: “We are disappointed to not win the game, in the context of it all. In the 83rd minute, to get 3-2 up, we have got to see that game out really. So it was frustrating and it is annoying because two points dropped from a winning position that we were in, with only seven or eight minutes to go.”
It was, however, if you put all else aside, cracking entertainment for the 3,000 plus fans that had turned up on the back holiday. Downes said: “It was a good game of football. It went to and thro throughout the game. I thought for the first 20 minutes we were great – two-nil up and worthy. And we allowed them to settle and we know that if they get the ball moving they are a good side.
“They are a possession-based team that want to move you around and they have got some real dangerous attacks and we were lucky, if I am honest, to go in at 2-1 up. Downes said, for the first 10 minutes of the second half, nothing changed despite the half-time chat. That’s when Weston got their second goal.
Downes said: “But then we reset and got higher up the pitch and we started winning more tackles and interceptions and we were able to get the ball back and retain the ball in a better way. That culminated in us putting a lot of pressure on them and looking like the team that was going to go on and win it at two-all. Then we got our goal and went back to sitting back. It’s really frustrating because we had done enough in that game to win a game.”
The point was better than none though and the Gulls moved a point further away from the relegation zone. Downes said: “There are some real positives to take out of it. “The overall picture is we have got to pick up points and that is a point in the right direction and some results have gone our way. It moved us a point closer to where we want to be.”
