Amazon shoppers can get their hands on a salon-worthy shampoo and conditioner duo for almost half price - and it’s totally transformed my hair after just one wash.
The online retailer has launched its hotly-anticipated Premium Beauty Week, which runs until Monday, April 22, with dozens of high-end brands like Elizabeth Arden and Foreo reduced. But as a beauty journalist, there’s one offer I’ve spotted that I can’t risk not stocking up on, and that’s the Pureology Hydrate Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner Duo Set.
Priced at £53.50 at Boots , this set has been reduced to just £29.40 at Amazon, which makes the shampoo and conditioner less than £15 each. And while I know that this is considered ‘expensive’ for everyday hair care, let me tell you - it’s worth every penny.
I used to use whichever affordable shampoo mum had thrown into the food shop but was finding myself at the hairdressers telling my stylist of my itching scalp, regularly finding product build-up leaving my hair feeling cakey and heavy, with pimples appearing around my hairline. I had fallen completely out of love with my hair, which would take forever to dry and would often be left looking dull and feeling tacky.
My hairdresser recommended a number of products to me, among which was Pureology , and since making the switch, I could never go back to cheap supermarket brands. She made the point that many shoppers are using a £2.50 product to take care of their £200 haircuts and colours - and it’s simply not cutting the mustard, or it wasn’t in my case, anyway.
The Pureology Hydrate Moisturising range is designed for medium to thick dry, colour-treated hair, and is a luxurious and gentle, sulphate-free formula that is said to soften, nourish and revitalise locks. The main ingredients in Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner are Jojoba oil, Green Tea, and Sage. The jojoba oil moisturises the hair, while the green tea helps promote a healthy scalp, and the sage stimulates hair follicles.
Both have a different aromatherapy blend which makes using them a spa-like and indulgent experience, with the shampoo offering a blend of lavender, bergamot, and patchouli, while the conditioner boasts a minty scent that provides a light, tingling sensation.
Sulphate-free shampoos are much better for your hair because they gently cleanse without removing natural oils, which leads to the hair being shinier, giving that glass effect that is going to be a major trend for 2024. It lathers well and you definitely get that ‘squeaky clean’ feel from it - especially if you double cleanse your hair, as you would your face.
It’s the conditioner that I love most though, as it’s a really thick, mask-like formula so the smallest amount covers my mid-lengths and ends with ease. I use the remainder towards my scalp and the menthol in the formula offers a gentle tingling sensation for the two minutes it sits on. Already still in the bath or shower my hair feels silky as it’s rinsed, but the real results come after drying.
My hair has truly never felt softer or more lightweight, nor looked as healthy and shiny as it does since using this combo. I’m also finding I can leave my hair a lot longer between washes without it going greasy.
And I’m not the only person obsessed with the duo, with the bundle racking up more than 5,000 Amazon ratings with an average of 4.6 stars. One said: “I usually do not write reviews. That’s because my Amazon buys tend to be typically quite boring. HOWEVER, this is amazing. The shampoo foams really well and the conditioner is absolutely beautiful. It has a minty feel to it and is wonderful and hydrating. My hair has been breaking over the last 6 months. I used this product yesterday and the breaking pretty much stopped. I’m still in shock.
“This is a great product for women of colour with type 4 hair who enjoy purchasing high-end products. I do wish there were more reviews from women who have my texture hair, and that is why I am writing this. Hopefully, the brand can focus a little more on marketing to women of colour.”
Another added: “There's no denying it, this stuff is expensive, but I do really like it. I have coloured treated hair, and swim regularly, so my hair gets quite dry and damaged, but these two work together to keep my hair looking and feeling good.”
A third said: “Leaves the hair feeling like silk. The conditioner leaves the scalp tingling and feels super clean.”
Though some have found the tingling of the conditioner ‘too intense’ while others simply aren’t keen on the scent, with one adding: “Absolutely love this shampoo and conditioner, really good on your hair, not a massive fan of the minty scent to the conditioner but overall really good.”
Elsewhere if you’re looking for professional hair care, Boots launched over 400 new products from 10 professional salon brands last year, including Redken, Ful and Ouai - and there’s currently 15 per cent off many of the products. Meanwhile, LookFantastic also has almost 2,000 products in its professional haircare category.
