Mid Devon residents are invited to join the Uffculme Green Team to take part in a national recycling unitiative.
The Big Plastic Count is beimg organised by Greenpeace and Everyday Plastic and local community groups are encouraged to join the event.
In 2022 nearly 250,000 people from schools, households and communities across the country made The Big Plastic Count the biggest investigation into UK household plastic waste.
It showed that almost 100 billion pieces of plastic are thrown away in the UK each year, with hardly any of it recycled.
“With your help, we’ll gather more, game-changing evidence that will push the government to take bold action on plastic,” said a spokesman for the event.
“Back in 2017, Everyday Plastic founder, Daniel Webb, collected every piece of his plastic waste for a year. With a scientific researcher, he developed a unique methodology to calculate his personal plastic footprint.
“The Big Plastic Count offers every one of us the same chance to discover what happens to our plastic waste once we throw it away.”
The Uffculme event takes place at Square Corner on Saturday, March 16, from 10am, and everyone interested is invited to join in.
“Share your plastic count, learn about recycling, make some junk art, join in the litterpick or simply enjoy a relaxing cup of tea and homemade cake,” said a spokesman from the Uffculme Green Team.
“Stay for a while and have soup and a roll. Donations are greatly welcomed, and all proceeds to support the various community activities from the Green Team.
“We look forward to hearing your views on litter and waste in your community.”
