A war widow will appear in court charged with assaulting her second husband at their home in Devon. Christina Plumb, aged 49, faces two charges of assault by beating.
Plumb, of Ugborough near Ivybridge, was previously known as Christina Schmid and campaigned for the families of armed forces personnel after her first husband Staff Sergeant Olaf 'Oz' Schmid was killed defusing a Taliban bomb in 2009.
Plumb was due to make a first appearance at Newton Abbot Magistrates' Court on Thursday. But her lawyer said she was ill and asked for an adjournment of two or three weeks.
The case was adjourned until May. The defendant is charged with assaulting Adam Plumb at their address in Parsonage Lane on September 17 of last year. Pleas to the charges have yet to be entered.
Staff Sergeant Olaf Schmid, 30, from Cornwall, died as he tried to disarm an improvised explosive device in the Sangin region of Helmand province. The heroic actions of the soldier – known simply as “Oz” to his comrades – saved countless lives by defusing 64 bombs and finding 11 bomb-making centres in five months.
He was posthumously awarded the George Cross gallantry award.
